One of Brevard’s smartest art events is the Friends of Textiles Lecture Series held in conjunction with exhibitions at the Florida Institute of Technology’s Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts.

This time it is contemporary artist Gerry Trilling who will lead a tour of her work in the Funk Center’s current exhibition, “Transformers: Recontextualizing Our Material Culture.” It begins Tuesday, Nov. 15, with a 5:15 p.m. reception which is followed by a 6 p.m. gallery talk for the general public. (She will lead a tour earlier that day at 11 a.m. for Florida Tech students.)

Ms. Trilling studied and earned her degree from the well respected Kansas City Art Institute. Born to parents who escaped the Holocaust, her work explores the American Jewish diaspora, home and community. She patterns fabrics to form her abstract work and will be exhibiting a large show in Kansas City, Missouri in 2017.

The cost for the evening event is for the general public. It is free for Friends of Textiles members and full-time Florida Tech students, faculty and staff with Florida Tech ID. Reservations are not required.
