Susan Martin, a long time member of Ten Women in Art and one of our very best area artists is exhibiting works from her recycling series.

The exhibition is called “December is for Recycling” and is on view through December at the Eau Gallie Public Library.

These are amazing examples of super realism, which, given the subject matter, evokes a dual response in the viewer. First, we may be fascinated by the artistry, talent and skill shown in the works, while at the same time we are stunned by the mundane subject matter. Is it the artist’s wry take on that stuff that equalizes us all? Could be, Ms. Martin does have a wicked sense of humor; for proof of that, just consider the exhibition’s title. Or is her elevated approach to the subject her way to attract us to what we too often ignore?
