DEREK GORES: LOCAL EDITION a retrospective of work by Brevard’s popular, award winning and internationally acclaimed artist Derek Gores, opens Saturday and runs through March 23 at Florida Tech’s Foosaner Art Museum. Look for a story soon in Brevard Culture. But in the meantime, this is gonna be the big boy on the cultural block this season.FRIENDS AND FAMILY exhibit The Members Show at Studios of Cocoa Beach. The annual show runs through January 21, 2019. Member artists are displaying the best of their current work. Phyllis Shipley won the Award of Excellence, judged by sponsor Dan Striby of Sterling Photography in Melbourne. Don Martin won the 1st Merit Award and Nicky Ravine won the 2nd. During the show’s opening reception visitors voted for the People’s Choice Award. Best of Show went to Don Martin, with Linda Z receiving the 1st Merit Award and Tony Sasso won the 2nd Merit Award. WANDERING SPIRIT: AFRICAN WAX PRINTS runs through Saturday at Florida Institute of Technology’s Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts. It is a tribute to the century-old handmade designs and patterns on textiles that originated in Indonesia and were copied and industrialized by Europeans and exported to West Africa.
