The gift-giving season commences on Black Friday. As always, tickets and memberships to performances and museums make very special gifts. Get a sampling of what’s out there by attending some of the events offered up this holiday season. And, don’t forget tickets to New Year’s Eve events — Heidi’s Jazz Club has a terrific celebration which always sells out.

Theater:

CHRISTMAS WITH DINO opens this evening and runs through Dec. 24 at Melbourne Civic Theatre. The theater company always has a special holiday show, frequently calling upon the talents of Alfie Silva. A wonderful singer and all around great performer, this season, Alfie brings his Dean Martin homage back to life. The show is filled with a bevy of beauties, wonderful songs and sophisticated humor. ORPHANS runs through Dec. 3 at Theater on the Edge in Orlando. It stars Brevard actors Zack Roundy and Allan Whitehead and Orlando actor Adam Minossora. ANTI-GRAVITY PROJECT
mural painting throughout the Eau Gallie Arts District begins today. The project brings in artists from around the world to paint murals throughout the Eau Gallie Arts District, which is in the area of the Foosaner Art Museum…i.e. along Highland Avenue and Eau Gallie Blvd., Melbourne. The opening ceremonies start 6:30 p.m. at the Intracoastal Brewing Company and end with Closing Ceremonies on Saturday, December 2, at Fusion Anti-Block Party. For more information, click here.

CLOTH AS COMMUNITY: HMONG TEXTILES IN AMERICA runs through Dec. 16 at Florida Institute of Technology’s Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts. Riverside Theatre is holding auditions for young newsboys to appear in its professional production of GYPSY 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4. Needed are three young male actors under 12 years of age. Tap dancing experience is a plus, but the young actors must be able to sing and dance/move. Just show up for the audition, head to the Orchid Lobby and sign in. Parents are welcome to stay in the lobby area. Bring a headshot and resume and wear clothes you can move/dance in. Prepare a short section of a song from musical theater. An accompanist will be provided. All auditions will be recorded. The show is scheduled to run March 6 to 26. Riverside Theatre is at 3250 Riverside Drive, Vero Beach, FL.
