Henegar High Tech Season Announcement

By PAM HARBAUGH

Nestle into some good Wifi zone and fire up Facebook, because the Henegar is going to hit the radio waves 7:30 p.m. this evening in a most unusual announcement of its next season.

Artistic director Hank Rion will go live on Facebook to take you behind the scenes to make the announcement — one show at a time while an assistant follows him around with a camera. And, there will be a choral dessert at the end.

Gone, thank heavens, are the days when you had to wait for the tri-fold flyers to go through the mail before you knew what area theaters were producing for following seasons. And those usually went out in the summer. Now, barely past the holidays, the news is flying out over social media.

But Mr. Rion’s approach is pretty cool and will probably be pretty effective:

The announcement will begin 7:30 p.m. on the Henegar’s Facebook page (click here). He’ll take viewers into the men’s dressing room where the first mainstage show will be announced. He’ll go into the orchestra pit to announce the Christmas show, then into the women’s dressing room to announce the January show. At each stop, he will open an envelope with the name of the show.

The tour will include the basement, the tech booth, front of house. The last mainstage show will be announced with the cast of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” on stage…and yes, they will deliver a 30-second preview of “Hunchback” (the end of the prologue).

“We’re trying to set a standard here on how to really use Facebook Live,” Mr. Rion said. “I’m trying to make it an event.”

The Henegar is at 625 E. New Haven Ave., Melbourne. Call 321-723-8698, visit Henegar.org or click onto their ad.
