A BSO Fourth of July

By PAM HARBAUGH

The big boy on the cultural block tomorrow, July 4, will be the Brevard Symphony Orchestra when it presents its annual free Fourth of July Concert.

Called the “Symphony Under the Stars,” the outdoor concert begins 8 p.m. at Cocoa Riverfront Park. Under the baton of Maestro Christopher Confessore, the concert features pop music, a tribute to military veterans and a climactic flourish when the BSO performs the 1812 Overture timed to coincide with the City of Cocoa’s fireworks display.

Additionally, this year the BSO will present a fully orchestrated version of the patriotic song “America at the Crossroads,” written by Suntree poet Joanna O’Keefe, orchestrated by Tony Smith and Joe Kreines and sung by Chris Finlayson of Cocoa.

This is always a fun, engaging and most festive event. It’s heavily attended, meaning you need to get there early to find parking AND…you need to allow plenty of time to leave. Cocoa Village traffic is extremely heavy after the event, so you’d be smart to park a bit outside Cocoa Village, or at the fringes, and then hoof it.

Also, bring chairs to sit on and mosquito repellent to share.
