Cuarteto Casals performs tonight

The Melbourne Chamber Music Society presents the acclaimed CUARTO CASALS at 7:30 p.m. tonight, March 6, 2015.

Strad magazine called the Cuarteto Casals “A quartet for the new millennium…” Last August, it won the German Record Critics Prize for its recording of Joseph Haydn’s “Die sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Kreuze” (The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross).

The prize winning group is the resident quartet for Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya in Barcelona. It formed in 1997 at the Escuela Rei-na Sofía in Madrid. It has performed around the world, including venues in Vienna, Cologne, Paris and Berlin. They also have performed at Wigmore Hall in London and Carnegie Hall in New York City as well in venues in Japan.

Tonight’s program is scheduled to include Mozart’s Quartet in G major, K.387, Juan Arriaga’s Quartet #3 and Brahms Quartet #2 in C minor, Op. 51 #1.
