WILLY WONKA runs through Dec. 16 at the Henegar. This of course is the Roald Dahl classic about the little boy who wins a golden ticket to visit a famed chocolate factory. MCT’S CHRISTMAS SHOW STARRING ALFIE SILVA runs through Dec. 24 at Melbourne Civic Theatre. A CHRISTMAS STORY: THE MUSICAL runs through Sunday at Cocoa Village Playhouse. Production assistant Jason Crase said “Patrons will be enchanted by the charming cast of both adults and children and by the beautiful, homey set design by Joseph Lark Riley.” The photos sure suggest that. BOOM runs through Sunday at Theater on the Edge in Orlando. This contemporary dark comedy concerns a sexy romp in a subterranean research lab which might be a source of survival when the threat of global annihilation pops up. BREVARD COMMUNITY CHORUS in Christmas of Light concert Saturday, Dec. 8 at the King Center. It features 100-plus voices of the Brevard Community Chorus and select players from the Brevard Symphony Orchestra performing holiday favorites and the the Florida premiere of Dan Forrest’s new choral selection, “Lux.” Concert begins 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 general, $15 seniors and military and $5 students. plus a variety of holiday favorites. DEREK GORES: LOCAL EDITION a retrospective of work by Brevard’s popular, award winning and internationally acclaimed artist Derek Gores, opens Saturday and runs through March 23 at Florida Tech’s Foosaner Art Museum. Look for a story soon in Brevard Culture. But in the meantime, this is gonna be the big boy on the cultural block this season.

FRIENDS AND FAMILY exhibit The Members Show at Studios of Cocoa Beach. The annual show runs through January 21, 2019. Member artists are displaying the best of their current work. Phyllis Shipley won the Award of Excellence, judged by sponsor Dan Striby of Sterling Photography in Melbourne. Don Martin won the 1st Merit Award and Nicky Ravine won the 2nd. During the show’s opening reception visitors voted for the People’s Choice Award. Best of Show went to Don Martin, with Linda Z receiving the 1st Merit Award and Tony Sasso won the 2nd Merit Award. The Studios of Cocoa Beach at 165 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach. Hours are Monday and Tuesday 10:30am-3:30 pm, Wednesday through Saturday 10:30am to 8pm and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm. WANDERING SPIRIT: AFRICAN WAX PRINTS runs through Dec. 15 at Florida Institute of Technology’s Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts. It is a tribute to the century-old handmade designs and patterns on textiles that originated in Indonesia and were copied and industrialized by Europeans and exported to West Africa.
