The weekend can be filled with music if you plan right. From soul searching musicals on stage at Titusville Playhouse and the Henegar to jazz at Heidi’s and the Henegar, you have some choices.

Theater:

FUN HOME opens tonight and runs through June 4 at Titusville Playhouse. This is a stunning contemporary musical dealing with issues of self-discovery. SOUTHERN SIRENS runs through Sunday at Titusville Playhouse’s Second Stage. It revolves around a group of ladies who meet yearly for a beach getaway. The show is sold out, but for those who have tickets, remember that curtain is 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. TPI is at 301 Julia St., Titusville. HEIDI’S JAZZ CLUB presents Steve Kirsner and Friends 5 – 8 p.m. today followed by the Ron Teixeira Trio. Hella performs Saturday night with the Ron Teixeira Trio. In addition to great entertainment, Heidi’s offers a wonderful bar and a super bar menu. This is definitely a favorite sophisticated night spots in Brevard. LEGENDS OF JAZZ — GREAT AMERICAN BIG BANDS concert will be held Monday at the Henegar Center. The concert features Brevard’s fantastic Mel Hi and Satellite high school jazz bands and their music directors performing the music of Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Also performing will be the Dan Wilborn Quartet playing songs from Dave Brubeck. Curtain is 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 14. Tickets are $23 general and $18 students. The Henegar is at 625 E. RENEW,, RE-DO, REPEAT exhibit will have its “Meet and Greet the Artist” reception 6 to 9 p.m. this evening. The exhibit’s theme takes an old work and makes it new. It runs through June 4 at the Strawbridge Art League and Gallery, 819-2 Strawbridge Ave., Melbourne (La Galerie Arcade). A CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK runs through the May at the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery. A reception will be held 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. this evening during First Friday. The show invited gallery member artists to “find a small area of a past work of art and create a new piece using, according to the artist, the most exciting, most interesting, or most neglected section of their art.” The Fifth Avenue Art Gallery is at 1470 Highland Ave., Melbourne.
