Soak up that culture now, we’ll be heading into summer mode before you know it. Shows closing this weekend, more opening next week. So best catch up with a couple of great shows still running at Riverside and Melbourne Civic Theatre.

Theater:

BUYER & CELLAR runs through April 8 at Riverside Theatre’s black box venue. This is a terrific one-man show about and highly recommended for those who like wit and are fascinated by anything about Barbra Streisand and the actual shopping mall for one she has in her basement. IT’S ONLY A PLAY runs through April 29 at Melbourne Civic Theatre. This is exciting news since so many of us did not get the opportunity to see Broadway’s much ballyhooed production of this Terrence McNally comedy giving us a behind the scenes glimpse at BroadWAY. PROOF runs through Sunday in Titusville Playhouse’s second stage venue. This is a popular drama about a young woman dealing with her late father’s legacy which includes brilliance and, perhaps, madness. Tickets are $20. TPI is at 301 Julia St., Titusville. THE SECRET GARDEN closes Saturday at Cocoa Village Playhouse. This musical is written by Marsha Norman with music by Lucy Simon. It is based on the beloved novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Nightlife and Music:

HEIDI’S JAZZ CLUB presents the Ron Teixeira Trio this weekend. In addition to great entertainment, Heidi’s offers a wonderful bar and a super bar menu. CODED COUTURE runs through April 28 at the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts. The interactive exhibition explores the idea of customized fashion in the digital age. The Funk Admission to the center is free. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. FRIENDS OF TEXTILES LECTURE SERIES
features ANNE SULLIVAN, assistant professor of digital media at UCF’s School of Visual Arts & Design, speaking on “Computational Craft: Digital Stories in Physical Spaces” 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in the Denius Student Center’s second-floor Hartley Room on the Florida Tech campus. It will be preceded by a reception at 5:15 p.m. and the Ruth Funk Center will remain open until 5 p.m., one hour later than normal. $10 for the general public and free for Friends of Textiles members and full-time Florida Tech students, faculty and staff with Florida Tech ID. 18th ANNUAL FULL LENGTH PLAY COMPETITION at Surfside Playhouse is accepting scripts from Brevard County playwrights through May 7. Unproduced original works only. The winning play will have performances June 29 and July 1 (with auditions May 20 and 21). Visit SurfsidePlayers.com.
