CLASSES and Creative Sparks

Nothing like immersing yourself into creativity to spark juicy ideas. Here are some quick hits at classes area artists are serving up:

This artist and idea man behind the Eau Gallie Arts Center’s hottest go-to cultural hub, Derek Gores Gallery, serves up a couple of workshops beginning next week. To register and to receive a supply list, send an email to projects@derekgores.com. The workshops are:

One-Day Wet and Wild Drawing Workshop: The class will be held 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in his gallery, 587 W. Eau Gallie Blvd., Melbourne FL. The workshop is designed to develop intuition and to become both more loose and more accurate. Working with a live model, students will explore abstract and spatial drawing. All experience levels welcomed. $175. Needed is charcoal and paper.

Two-Day Collage Workshop: This will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 16 to 17. Mr. Gores will assist you in a medium that has become quite the forte for him. All experience levels. $300.

Magic of Painting with Nancy Dillen: A revered area artist who taught for years at what is now called Eastern Florida State College, Ms. Dillen has exhibited nation wide. She currently has a one woman show on view at the Renee Foosaner Education Center. The exhibition explores the real and imaginary — two worlds which inspire the art professor emeritus. (Ms. Dillen will offer a free gallery talk on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m.) To coincide with that exhibition, she is offering a one-day painting workshop at the Renee Foosaner Education Center 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9. This improvisation group will get you up on your feet and doing things you thought you’d never do in front of other people. To register, visit NQRComedy.com.

Improv Class the Basics: This beginning classes will be held on four Monday evenings beginning Oct. 23. Ages 16 and older. $80 for four weeks or $160 for eight weeks. Or $20 a class. A student show-off production for those who attend every class.

No Props Improv: This is designed for actors (both script and improv) who want to sharpen their characterization skills. 7 – 9 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Oct. 25. $80 for four weeks.
