STEAM Seminar Series

A monthly series of fascinating lectures presented by Florida Tech begins tomorrow evening at the Foosaner Art Museum. It’s called the STEAM Seminar Series and its a combined project by the Foosaner and the university’s School of Human-Centered Design, Innovation and Art.

“The museum is thrilled to partner with the School of Human-Centered Design, Innovation and Art to present public programming that promotes innovation through art and technology,” said University Museums Director Carla Funk. “This series aims to demonstrate the arts as a powerful catalyst for scientific exploration.”

STEAM will offer a free monthly presentation by important leaders in “the intersection of science, technology, engineer, math and art.” They will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, Nov. 29, Jan. 24, Feb. 28 and March 28.

Tomorrow’s lecture features Dr. Esther Beltran speaking on “Advances of Surgical Techniques on Earth through Space Exploration.” She will talk about how space travel has revolutionized medicine in many ways, including telemedicine and robotic surgery, and the potential of future innovations.

Chief scientist of space medicine and life sciences at the Florida Space Institute in Orlando, Dr. Beltran was one of the medical doctors who helped develop ISS spacewalk protocols.

The lecture runs 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the Harris Auditorium at the Foosaner Art Museum, 1463 Highland Ave., Melbourne. Admission is free. Call 321-674-4960 or email dcaballe@fit.edu.
