MELBOURNE CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY concert

By PAM HARBAUGH

The Melbourne Chamber Music Society will present violinist Hye-Jin Kim and pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute in concert 7:30 p.m. Friday in Indialantic, FL.

When she was 19, Ms. Kim won first prize at the Yehudi Menuhim Competition. In 2009 she won the Concert Artists Guild Competition. The Strad magazine calls Ms. Kim a violinist with “heart-stopping, unrivalled beauty.” She has performed the world over.

Ms. Jokubaviciute, who is from Lithuania, has also performed the world over. The Washington Post has described her as playing as “subtle, complex, almost impossibly detailed and riveting in every way” and The New York Times has called her “an artist of commanding technique, refined temperament, and persuasive insight.”

Ms. Kim and Ms. Jokubaviciute collaborated to create the CD “From the Homeland” which was released in the spring of 2014 on CAG Records. It features music by Debussy, Sibelius, Smetana, and Janacek.

Friday’s concert for the Melbourne Chamber Music Society includes: J.S. Bach Sonata in C minor BWV 1017; Prokofiev Sonata in F Minor, Opus 80; Kreisler La Gitana, Tambourine Chinois and Songs My Mother Taught Me; and Saint-Saens Sonata in D Minor.
