AMPHION STRING QUARTET to Perform Friday

By PAM HARBAUGH

The award winning Amphion String Quartet may make its typical appearance at places like the Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall or at Brooklyn’s popular Bargemusic venue. But this Friday, the group will perform in the sanctuary of a church in Indialantic.

The performance is brought to Brevard by the Melbourne Chamber Music Society, a group devoted to bringing to Brevard the best in serious music.

Called “focused, forceful (with) sharply detailed performances” by The New York Times, the Amphion has also performed in such heady halls as the Chautauqua Institution, Princeton University, the Library of Congress and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Really, if you love chamber music…or, if you need a friendly introduction to it, then make sure you go to Friday’s concert. The program features: Haydn’s String Quartet Op 77, #1; Janacek’s String Quartet #1; and Grieg’s String Quartet in G minor.

If that’s not enough, there’s free punch and cookies during intermission!

The performance begins 7:30 p.m. at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 2030 N. A1A, Indialantic, FL. Tickets are $35 general and $10 for students.
