This is what I wrote in June:

“If you haven’t made it to one of Melbourne Civic Theatre’s most appealing and artistically stimulating playreadings, then you’ve missed some very cool and most artsy theater experiences.”

It’s still true, you know. And if you haven’t partaken of this smart cultural offering, then get with it.

Next up is A.R. Gurney’s “Black Tie,” at 2 p.m. today. As described on MCT’s website:

“Father of the groom, Curtis, simply wants to make a memorable toast. But before he is able to raise his glass, he must defend the time-honored ways of his past, including his attire. Cultures clash when a surprise guest is announced, threatening to throw convention out the window. Curtis finds that balancing the standards of his late father and the needs of his future family may prove too messy for a black tie affair.”

The reading is directed by Terrence Girard, who also sits on stage to read aloud the stage directions. His cast is Troy Sheets, Steve Budkiewicz, Nancy Bock, Melissa Niehaus, and Zack Roundy.
