Parents of children who love to sing might want to consider getting them involved with the Brevard Youth Chorus, the non-profit group made up of choral singers in grades 4 through 10.

Auditions for the group will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Suntree United Methodist Church, 7400 N. Wickham Rd., Melbourne. This is by appointment, so be sure to call 321-432-2770 to book an audition time slot.

The group is headed by Joani Slawson, a bright, eager and enthusiastic woman who had dedicated her considerable talents to the organization since 2004. If that last name is musically familiar to you, she is the wife of Brevard Symphony Orchestra tympanist and composer Brian Slawson.

It performs throughout the county at various venues and events. Their schedule includes performances at the BSO’s Family Concert, holiday concerts with the Indialantic Chamber Singers and a choral performance of ‘Carmina Burana’ with the Brevard Community Chorus.
